Case Study: Swisscom achieves a single, agile data warehouse and near-real-time reporting with SAP HANA

A SAP HANA Case Study

Preview of the Swisscom Case Study

Creating a Central, Agile Data Warehouse to Speed Up Processes and Better Serve the Business

Swisscom, Switzerland’s leading telecommunications and IT services provider, faced fragmented, 15-year-old reporting systems: three separate SAP BW data warehouses with complex third‑party integrations that made financial close, reporting, and maintenance slow and costly. The company launched the OneBI project to create a single, governed source of truth that would standardize reporting, enable self‑service, support real‑time operations, and reduce dependence on bespoke interfaces and individual experts.

OneBI consolidated the three warehouses into a central SAP BW powered by SAP HANA platform (with mixed modeling), paired with SAP BusinessObjects analytics and enterprise information management, and implemented real‑time interfaces and a strong governance model. The rollout—which went live on schedule—delivered dramatic benefits: an 80% reduction in reports, data‑warehouse size cut from 8 TB to 1–2 TB, full reloads in ~60 hours, near real‑time financials and faster closes, 1,000 flexible queries replacing 5,000 rigid reports, lower maintenance costs, and a clear path to migrate to SAP BW/4HANA.
