Simons Foundation Transforms Its Entire AP Operation with SAP Concur Solutions

The Simons Foundation, a New York–based nonprofit supporting math, basic science and autism research with roughly 450 employees, faced a paper‑based accounts payable process that required about 16 manual touchpoints per invoice, took around three days to process 125 weekly invoices, and created inefficiencies and delays. Leadership sought a cloud‑based solution to automate invoice submission, approvals and payments while improving user experience and keeping overhead low.

The foundation implemented SAP Concur solutions (including Concur Invoice, Expense, Travel and related services), built a supplier portal, and ran an inclusive change‑management program—completing the rollout in six months. Results: manual touchpoints dropped from 16 to 4, the AP team saves ~100 hours/month, OCR accuracy is 95%, 98% of suppliers accept ACH, ~98% of invoices are electronic, and a small AP team handles growing volume without adding headcount.
