The National Bureau for Revenue, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s tax authority, needed to modernize its VAT and taxation systems to eliminate paper-based, manual processes and provide a secure, digital platform for registration, returns, refunds, payments, and collections. To meet that goal it engaged SAP Commerce Cloud, deploying SAP S/4HANA and SAP Tax and Revenue Management for Public Sector (implemented with partner Invenio Business Solutions Limited) as a unified, cloud-based taxation platform.
SAP Commerce Cloud delivered a single, consolidated cloud foundation that fully digitalized VAT collection and signatures, standardized calculation engines, and unified taxpayer communications. The solution eliminated manual processes and paper use, cut refund processing from 45 days to 1 day (a 45x improvement), positioned the bureau to scale registered taxpayers from 20,000 to 100,000, and supported over US$600 million in tax revenue—driving measurable gains in efficiency, transparency, and scalability.
