How Is Cloud Technology Revolutionizing the Convenience Store Shopping Experience

Valora, a European convenience‑store operator with about 2,700 small-format points of sale and 15,000 employees, wanted to combine the convenience of physical stores with a seamless digital experience: a cashier‑free store where customers enter with a smartphone, scan items, and pay, while also capturing customer data to enable personalization and loyalty. To build and scale that vision, Valora partnered with SAP Commerce Cloud (alongside SAP Customer Experience and SAP Business Technology Platform technologies) to provide the back‑end commerce, master‑data, cart, and payment functionality for the new avec box concept.

Using SAP Commerce Cloud plus SAP BTP, SAP Marketing Cloud, and SAP Customer Data Cloud (with partners Webtiser AG and Pagnos GmbH), Valora launched a pilot in just six months and implemented a fully integrated cloud‑to‑cloud landscape that supports 24x7 cashier‑free shopping, personalized recommendations, and compliant customer registrations. The deployment increased new registered customers by 20%, opened new revenue streams and net‑new customers, improved convenience, loyalty, and brand value, and gave Valora a 360° customer view to scale the solution quickly — all enabled by SAP Commerce Cloud.
