Case Study: City of Boston improves fleet efficiency and EV reliability with Samsara

A Samsara Case Study

Preview of the City of Boston Case Study

The City of Boston progresses their goal of full fleet electrification with Samsara EV features

The City of Boston, responsible for serving nearly 700,000 residents across 23 neighborhoods, needed better visibility into a large municipal fleet that includes EVs, PHEVs, snowplows, and contractor vehicles. Using Samsara, the City sought to improve fleet efficiency, reduce emissions, and address challenges like EV range anxiety, contractor tracking, and verifying snow removal service quality.

Samsara implemented connected sensors, real-time GPS tracking, Vehicle Gateways, geofences, Proximity Search, and API integrations to give the City live and historical fleet data. As a result, Boston improved EV battery management and avoided stranded vehicles, supported its 2030 full-fleet electrification goal, saved over 110 lbs of carbon emissions on one trip, and gained more accurate contractor billing and stronger accountability for snowplow service.
