A Samsara Case Study

Preview of the Dohrn Transfer Company Case Study

Less-than-truckload carrier utilizes Samsara to support routing and dispatch efficiency for its 545-vehicle fleet

Dohrn Transfer Company is a Rock Island, Illinois–based less‑than‑truckload carrier with 21 terminals, a 545‑vehicle fleet and 645 drivers serving a 14‑state area. Faced with the federal ELD mandate, Dohrn also wanted a single technology to improve dispatch and routing, streamline paperwork, strengthen safety programs, and make maintenance more proactive while engaging drivers and reducing operating costs.

Dohrn deployed the Samsara IoT fleet platform—ELD-enabled tablets, live GPS, HD dash cams, electronic DVIRs and remote engine diagnostics—to enable real‑time dispatching, proactive coaching and automated maintenance alerts. The results included an 88% drop in harsh driving events, a 50% reduction in idle time, a 2% fuel improvement (about 150,000 gallons and ~$500K saved annually), $200K saved on cellular plans, faster maintenance response (~40%), significant administrative time savings and a 10% reduction in driver turnover.
