A Samsara Case Study
Carter Express and Carter Logistics are a large North American supply‑chain provider—operating over 900 trucks, 1,600 trailers and 950 drivers and running 400+ shared milk‑run routes daily. As the business scaled, inefficient telematics, paper DVIRs and manual route checkpoint entry created drag on drivers and dispatchers: drivers struggled with a clunky integration and time‑consuming processes, and dispatchers spent large portions of their day fixing data and entering GPS/HOS information instead of managing operations.
By integrating Samsara’s vehicle gateways and open API, Carter automated real‑time GPS into their TMS, adopted electronic DVIRs and implemented geofencing. The changes automated navigation and route checkpoints, cut DVIR submission time from 15 minutes to about one minute, increased vehicle‑health visibility “tenfold,” and improved route point updates by 30%, freeing dispatchers to focus on proactive load management and improving driver productivity and communication.
