Birmingham City Schools - Customer Case Study

Birmingham City Schools (BCS) runs a large transportation operation—158 school buses and 135 white‑fleet vehicles transporting over 20,000 students daily and logging more than 1.3 million miles a year. Facing slow device installs with their previous telematics provider and a need to improve on‑time performance, driver safety, maintenance efficiency, and fuel/idle compliance, BCS sought a smarter, faster way to get actionable fleet and safety data.

BCS deployed Samsara’s plug‑and‑play Vehicle Gateways, Driver App, and integrations with Servicefinder and Transfinder to enable driver‑level safety scores, electronic DVIRs, planned‑vs‑actual route reporting, and fuel/idle monitoring. The result: installation and insight delivery in a fraction of the prior time, measurable safety gains (team score of 90 with 25% of drivers at a perfect 100 in Dec 2019), more than 119,500 miles since the last preventable accident (1.5x the peer average), streamlined maintenance workflows, and reduced driver turnover.
