UC Health launches the Wisdom Study with the Salesforce Platform

UC Health’s Athena Breast Health Network, led by Dr. Laura Esserman at UCSF, launched the Wisdom Study to test a precision-medicine approach to breast cancer screening. The challenge was recruiting 100,000 women ages 40–74 and collecting detailed, real-time clinical and patient-reported data at scale so researchers could determine whether personalized screening is as safe and effective as annual mammography — a task that required significant automation and analytics capability.

Partnering with the Salesforce Platform, the team built a learning platform to automate recruitment, capture individual histories and risk profiles, and analyze large datasets in real time. The solution made it possible to scale the study to hundreds of thousands of participants, profile and follow people over time, and return actionable findings to clinicians — enabling a feasible, data-driven trial of personalized breast cancer screening.
