Case Study: Kiva achieves expanded access to microloans and faster innovation with Salesforce

A Salesforce Case Study

Preview of the Kiva Case Study

Kiva brings new levels of innovation to global microfinance

Kiva is a nonprofit microfinance platform that has funneled over $500 million to more than 1 million borrowers worldwide, enabling small loans (often $25) to create economic opportunity. Faced with complex needs — processing transactions, onboarding diverse partners and volunteers, managing translations and customer support — Kiva had to scale these operations quickly with a small engineering team while expanding into new partner types and products.

By customizing Salesforce (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and custom apps/portals on the Salesforce Platform), Kiva bootstrapped its systems instead of building from scratch, enabling partner tracking, risk verification, fundraising, volunteer management and fast supporter service. The result is a stable infrastructure that supports 4,000+ support cases a month with sub‑24‑hour responses, faster innovation (including Kiva Zip and student loans), and broader, more transparent access to capital in remote communities.
