A Salesforce Commerce Cloud Case Study
Solvay, a global chemical materials company with about 25,000 employees and roughly €11 billion in annual revenue, needed a better way to serve small-volume customers who require technical information and guidance before buying. Traditional sales channels were time-consuming—inside sales spent hours on calls and emails helping low-volume buyers choose products—and previous B2B platforms underperformed for these complex needs.
Solvay built a scalable self-service portal using Salesforce (Community Cloud, B2B Commerce, Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud), launching the Community Cloud pilot in two months and expanding commerce shortly after. The portal delivered faster service and 24/7 resources—resulting in 56% adoption so far, 100 touchless orders per month, 339 satisfied ecommerce customers in six months, and €2–3 million per month in ecommerce sales—giving Solvay a clear path to scale small-volume sales globally.
