How Columbia Empowers Its Retail Partners With Ecommerce

Columbia Sportswear Company, a 70‑year outdoor apparel leader (including Mountain Hardwear, Sorel and others), needed an ecommerce approach that supported — not undercut — its retail partners while meeting growing consumer demand for online product research. With more than half of buyers researching purchases online, Columbia wanted to give shoppers just‑in‑time information in stores (videos, reviews, pricing) while also maintaining a branded desktop storefront for direct sales and partner asset sharing.

Using Commerce Cloud, Columbia launched a mobile storefront in six weeks (columbia.com/mobile) with full catalog, reviews, store locator and checkout, and manages desktop and mobile sites from a unified platform to cut maintenance and speed customization. The mobile rollout (covering handsets that generate ~90% of traffic) was extended to other brands, increased in‑store engagement and shopper confidence, streamlined operations, and strengthened relationships with consumers and retail partners.
