Butlers is a leading European homeware and gift retailer with about 1,000 employees and more than 150 stores across nine countries. Facing rapid growth and a strategy to make online sales a much larger share of revenue, the company needed a scalable omni-channel platform to replace a legacy open-source solution that couldn’t support increased transaction volumes, faster geographic expansion, personalization or streamlined multi-channel sales processes.

Butlers implemented Demandware’s cloud commerce platform with Javengo in under six months, launching localized sites, multiple payment options, a store quick-order system and integrations with Amazon, eBay and Otto. The result: online sales doubled from 2011 to 2012 (140,000+ orders in 2012), a durable, scalable platform that handles peak demand, and new customer-facing features — including a configurator and augmented‑reality furniture preview — that improve personalization and the overall shopping experience.
