Nelnet embraces AI-driven identity security

Nelnet, a service company serving student loan, consumer finance, telecommunications, and education markets, needed to move its identity security platform from on-premises to the cloud while reducing the maintenance burden on its IT team. The company had been using SailPoint IdentityIQ to manage lifecycle and governance for 7,500 employees, but wanted a cloud-based approach that better aligned with its broader IT strategy.

SailPoint Technologies helped Nelnet migrate to SailPoint Identity Security Cloud, with support from its migration assessment program and implementation partner ProofID. Nelnet went live in January 2024 and has since expanded its plans to use new capabilities such as Non-Employee Risk Management and CIEM, with future goals to add 8 to 10 more sources and integrate with FedRAMP and Workday.
