DHIT Empowers North Carolina Communities to Reopen Safely with the Help of SafeGraph Data

DHIT (Digital Health Institute for Transformation), a North Carolina non‑profit focused on reducing health inequity, launched the Community Confidence Project to help local communities reopen safely during COVID‑19. Needing granular, interoperable mobility data to balance reopening with controlling virus transmission, DHIT selected SafeGraph and its Core Places and Patterns datasets to compare reported perceptions with actual community behavior.

Using SafeGraph Core Places and Patterns, DHIT merged mobility data with surveys and health metrics to create county‑ and sector‑level visualizations and scorecards—example Robeson County indices included Environmental 58, Contagion 33, Behavioral 60, Capacity of Care 45, and Community Health 72. SafeGraph’s data let DHIT identify gaps between stated preferences and real movement, inform local messaging and policy, and provide actionable insights that helped leaders make safer reopening decisions.
