Case Study: Pitney Bowes achieves high-quality, cost-efficient 20M-word global translation scale with RWS

A RWS Case Study

Preview of the Pitney Bowes Case Study

When Pitney Bowes talks to the world about innovative solutions that power commerce — it relies on a translation technology ecosystem from SDL

Pitney Bowes, a global provider of mailing, shipping and commerce solutions, faces a huge and growing localization demand: roughly 3,000 projects and 20 million words a year across products, documentation and software. The challenge was to manage that volume cost‑effectively while maintaining consistent brand quality across in‑house and external translators and delivering large software localizations to multiple languages on tight schedules.

Pitney Bowes implemented an SDL translation ecosystem — Translation Management System, Trados Studio and Passolo — to centralize oversight, automate workflows and leverage large translation memories (4.5M segments across 23 TMs, with ~90% TM matches on big UI updates). The result: they translate more without raising costs, preserve or improve quality, accelerate multi‑language releases, and gain the efficiency and consistency needed to pursue terminology management and post‑edited machine translation next.
