A RWS Case Study
The University of Konstanz, a research university on Lake Constance with about 12,000 students, needed to make its information accessible in English for a growing international community. When a translation lead joined in 2013 she found no centralized translation management: translations were done ad hoc, roles were undefined, terminology was inconsistent, and there was no searchable repository, causing poor quality and duplicated work.
The university adopted SDL Trados Studio and SDL MultiTerm to create a central translation memory and termbase, standardize workflows, and require external vendors to use compatible tools. As a result, most of the website and many key documents are now bilingual, translation quality and consistency have significantly improved, duplication and turnaround time have been reduced, and a shared termbase (about 800 entries) is available across the institution.
