A RWS Case Study
The European Institute of Romania (EIR) tasked its Translation Coordination Unit (TCU) with localizing the Acquis Communautaire — a 158,000‑page body of EU law — under tight deadlines and with a small, evolving team. Faced with missing or inconsistent Romanian terminology, newly coined concepts and the risk of legal misinterpretation, the TCU needed a reliable, centralized way to ensure accuracy and consistency across thousands of documents.
The TCU adopted SDL MultiTerm to consolidate, validate and manage terminology with linguists, legal revisers and subject‑matter experts, supporting imports/exports, cross‑references and multimedia attachments. The result: faster, more consistent translations that helped streamline Romania’s EU accession, a terminology database of over 54,000 entries in eight languages and more than 23,300 validated terms published for citizens and slated for delivery to IATE.
