A RWS Case Study
A major pharmaceuticals company (annual revenues >$39 billion) and long‑time RWS IP Solutions customer reviewed its IP filing strategy to cut patent translation costs for PCT national phase entry and Paris Convention filings without reducing filing jurisdictions. The client needed improved translation quality and accuracy, preservation of relationships with foreign prosecution agents, no added burden on the in‑house IP team, and a single centralized service provider.
RWS deployed its Patent Translation and Filing service, using bespoke translation technology, portfolio analysis and agreed KPIs (timeliness, quality, cost savings, customer satisfaction). After a successful trial—during which foreign associates could review translations—the program was rolled out with regular KPI reporting and coordination within existing workflows. The result: measurable cost savings that allowed the client to reduce its patent budget without dropping jurisdictions, together with increased efficiency, faster delivery and improved translation quality.
