A large international manufacturing company (over $5 billion in revenue in 2013) with a lean IP team wanted to centralize providers, cut patent translation costs and improve translation quality and consistency. At the time they were using a mix of third‑party translators through their foreign patent firm network and tasked RWS to deliver competitive rates and reliable, accurate translations.
RWS introduced its foreign filing and translation services, including the inovia online filing platform, and implemented a KPI‑driven, measured rollout. Trials delivered immediate time and cost savings, consolidated invoicing, easier management of foreign counsel and faster workflows that freed staff for higher‑value work. Over the relationship the manufacturer’s filings expanded (EP filings grew from 5 to 10 countries and PCT/National entries from 3 to 13 between 2014 and 2021), their annual translation and filing spend rose 74% in 2020 versus 2014, and after eight years—and growth to over $9 billion revenue—they continue to use RWS end‑to‑end.
