A RWS Case Study
Schering AG, a global pharmaceutical company with products in areas such as gynecology, oncology and diagnostic imaging, needed to supply precise, harmonized product documentation to regulators in more than 150 countries. Its headquarters translation team handled large volumes of technical, medical and regulatory material (about 23,000 pages in 1999), so the business required absolute accuracy, continuity across decades of documents and a way to avoid duplicate effort without slowing productivity.
Schering deployed SDL Global Information Management Solutions (SDL Trados), integrating translation memory and fuzzy-match functionality with its GlobeDoc system and Microsoft Word in a two-month rollout. The solution eliminated repetitive translation work, enforced single-version control, sped throughput by up to 50%, improved terminology consistency and accuracy, paid for itself within six months, and made knowledge transfer and new-translator onboarding far easier.
