A RWS Case Study
Pilz, a German automation-technology company best known for safety products like emergency-stop systems, sells worldwide through more than 30 subsidiaries and processes about 170 translation requests a month in 18 languages. Without a central translation memory or unified terminology, the company faced duplicated work, inconsistent translations and no easy way for employees to access approved terminology.
Pilz implemented SDL Trados Studio and SDL MultiTerm to create a centrally managed translation memory and corporate terminology database. The Technical Documentation team prepares project packages (including TM and terminology) for local translators and the returned translations automatically update the TM; the terminology is accessible company-wide. The change cut duplicated effort, improved translation consistency and quality, and now supports up to 200 projects per month with reliable access to past translations.
