A RWS Case Study
Philips Consumer Electronics, a leading global consumer electronics company, faced escalating complexity as its product range and markets expanded: more than 50,000 product specifications (including 10,000 feature descriptions), 1,800 logos, and content required in dozens of languages led to redundant translations, fragmented processes and delays of over four months for new content to reach local websites—hurting time-to-market, consistency and brand quality.
PCE adopted a global, XML-based content strategy with a centralized CMS, SDL Translation Management System, centralized terminology and automated publishing. The initiative cut technical specifications from 50,000 to under 4,000, reduced translation costs by more than 30% (with a further ~17% from terminology), slashed content-management overhead by ~85%, shortened review turnaround and made translated content available in weeks rather than months.
