A RWS Case Study
A leading telecommunications testing and service-assurance provider based in Quebec City, serving over 2,000 customers worldwide, needed to deliver complex software and extensive support resources in more than 20 languages. Coordinating development teams, technical writers and multiple translation agencies created high cost, long turnaround times and technical problems (strings in Excel causing code issues), so the company sought to reduce time, cost and complexity without sacrificing quality.
They implemented SDL Trados Studio and SDL Passolo (with plans for GroupShare) to pre-translate content using translation memories, send agencies only the untranslated segments, and bring DTP in-house. The change resolved software localization issues, improved control and consistency, and dramatically cut costs and times — annual outsourcing fell from $400K to $160K (≈60% reduction), standard delivery times dropped from 10 to 4–6 weeks, urgent projects can finish in about 10 days, and some 30,000-word multilingual jobs can be delivered in as little as six days.
