A RWS Case Study
A large consumer‑electronics consortium’s patent pool needed to identify unlicensed or non‑compliant products in downstream retail channels to compel cooperation and protect its licensees. Because the pool requires a unique label on retail packaging for verification, they sought visual, on‑the‑ground evidence from stores worldwide to quickly detect and act on license violations.
RWS deployed a crowdsourced IP research survey asking contributors for store location, date, product name/model and six photos of the box to prove the licensing label was missing, and excluded known‑compliant brands to focus the effort. The approach delivered documented, actionable evidence almost immediately, enabling recoveries, improved compliance, incremental licensing revenue and repeatable, geographically targeted studies that demonstrated enforcement to licensees and manufacturers.
