A RWS Case Study

Preview of the US-Based Consultancy Company Case Study

Highlighting future innovation opportunities via a landscape search

A US-based consultancy working for an automotive company engaged RWS IP Research to perform a state-of-the-art non‑patent literature landscape search on “Future Transportation.” The goal was to capture literature on the movement of goods and people—including infrastructure, vehicles, and business models—as these might exist five to 20 years out, to inform innovation landscaping.

RWS posted the project to its Crowdbased community of 40,000 researchers across 170+ countries, dividing the topic into 11 targeted interest areas (e.g., emerging vehicle types, transportation services, smart city and human‑interaction technologies, materials) and offering $500 per category to drive engagement. Over three weeks the study returned more than 1,400 references, logged by 90+ qualified researchers and submitted in six languages; RWS delivered these references categorized into 30 client-aligned categories, enabling a comprehensive presentation that highlighted future innovation opportunities.
