A RWS Case Study
Giesecke & Devrient, a 150‑year‑old technology supplier to banks and governments, produces large volumes of user documentation for a global customer base (over 1.7 million words in a year). As documentation came from multiple business units using different naming conventions and eight separate term lists, the in‑house Translation Department spent increasing time resolving inconsistent product and part names, causing missed deadlines, higher project costs and lower customer satisfaction.
To fix this, Giesecke & Devrient centralized documentation and translation, implemented SDL MultiTerm and SDL Trados, and built a corporate terminology database with web access (about 20,000 terms). The solution delivered immediate ROI: 30–40% reuse of translated text, 15–20% lower translation costs and roughly 30% total cost savings, faster turnaround, cleaner source language and consistent terminology across the organization and external partners.
