Chrysler - Customer Case Study

Chrysler LLC, a global automaker with $67 billion in annual revenue and 2.7 million vehicles sold worldwide, faced a major documentation challenge: each new model requires 5,000–8,000 pages of manuals that must be translated quickly and affordably to meet manufacturing timeframes and a corporate mandate to cut costs. Traditional human translation was too slow and expensive to support frequent updates and global distribution without impacting revenue.

Tweddle Litho and SDL implemented SDL intelligent Machine Translation integrated with SDL Contenta and a Translation Management System, combining translation memory, terminology management and human post‑editing. The result: translation costs fell by more than 35%, productivity improved over 40%, roughly 35,000 pages were translated into French, Italian, German and Spanish in under four months, headcount was dramatically reduced and translation quality and consistency increased—accelerating time‑to‑market and lowering overall localization risk.
