Canva and RWS make design truly local for 130 million non-English speaking users

Canva, the Sydney‑based design platform used by over 230 million people each month, faced a major localization challenge: more than 130 million users interact in languages other than English, and rapid global growth (including a jump to 100 languages in under two years) meant templates, images and product experiences had to feel culturally relevant at massive scale.

Canva partnered with RWS to build a scalable, creative localization program — covering 80+ languages, translating up to 1.5 million words per month and engaging 2,000+ linguists with dedicated teams in key regions. The collaboration enabled market‑specific assets (over 700,000 templates and 2.3 million localized elements in 2024), smoother event localisation and stronger engagement (for example, 40,000 CTA clicks on a Droptober landing page in the first week), while deepening long‑term partnership and quality across markets.
