Case Study: Lehi City achieves timely, cost-effective equipment replacement and avoids unexpected breakdowns with RTA

A RTA Case Study

With RTA, Fleet Managers Know When to Replace Aging Equipment

Lehi City’s fleet team, led by Fleet Manager Jeremy Estes, faced the common municipal challenge of a rapidly growing population and tight budgets while trying to keep 530 vehicles and pieces of equipment running. Aging assets — notably an 18-year-old sewer vacuum truck — risked costly failures, and the city needed a reliable way to prioritize repairs and replacements before unexpected breakdowns strained resources.

Using RTA’s fleet management replacement scoring report (based on APWA standards across projected age, mileage, maintenance cost, service frequency and condition), Jeremy identified the vacuum truck as a top candidate for intervention and chose a $50,000 engine replacement instead of a full replacement. The RTA tools, telematics integration, expert support and training helped the team avoid a breakdown, optimize maintenance intervals, track labor and costs, and keep vital equipment operating while stretching a limited budget.
