Island Transit cuts parts inventory from 14 days to 1 with RTA

Island Transit, a public transit agency in Coupeville, Wash., faced a significant challenge with its parts inventory process. It took two staff members approximately 14 days to complete inventory for their more than 8,000 parts. Seeking to save time and labor, they partnered with vendor RTA and implemented its barcoding tools integrated with fleet management software.

By implementing RTA's barcoding solution, the agency streamlined its inventory management. The new process allowed four to five staff members to complete a full inventory count in just one day. This resulted in a dramatic reduction of 13 days from their original process, saving a substantial amount of labor and making the system pay for itself.
