A Riverbed Case Study
T‑Mobile Germany, a leading mobile operator with about 37 million subscribers and €8 billion in 2007 revenue, needed to standardize network design and operations across multiple technologies to ensure reliable, high‑speed mobile data services. The IP Design Authorization Group faced the challenge of detecting misconfigurations, security gaps and policy violations, and of guaranteeing end‑to‑end connectivity, survivability and timely capacity planning across the backbone.
T‑Mobile implemented Riverbed SteelCentral NetSentinel and NetPlanner as a company‑wide toolset: NetSentinel collects hierarchical network and traffic data and audits configurations, while NetPlanner models end‑to‑end connectivity, survivability and capacity impact. The deployment uncovered and fixed several unnoticed erroneous configurations, improved justification of design recommendations, delivered unprecedented visibility, and significantly reduced configuration errors and downtime.
