How Tyson Foods used the Rival platform to understand shifts in morning routines

Tyson Foods, a major food manufacturer, needed a fast, contextual understanding of how COVID-19 and recession-related changes were reshaping consumers’ morning routines and eating habits. The company wanted insights it could use to guide innovation, messaging, and portfolio decisions across its brands, and worked with Rival Technologies to capture those shifts in real time.

Rival Technologies and Reach3 Insights ran a multi-phase learning sprint using Rival’s mobile, SMS-based research platform, starting with a week-long morning meal diary and followed by virtual in-depth interviews. The approach generated more than 500 photos and selfie videos, plus hundreds of in-the-moment meal diary responses, helping Tyson Foods uncover new barriers, rethink positioning opportunities, and shape retail and foodservice plans. The research outputs were also turned into dynamic reports and video showreels used to onboard new hires and engage stakeholders.
