Case Study: Welcome Break achieves 8% reduction in turnover and $170k recruitment savings with Reward Gateway

A Reward Gateway Case Study

Preview of the Welcome Break Case Study

Large retailer enhances EVP to dramatically reduce recruiting spend by $170k and decrease turnover by 8%

Welcome Break, a motorway service operator with 5,500 employees across 34 locations, faced rising turnover and a shrinking applicant pool after governmental policy changes, compounded by remote sites, competition from high‑street brands and limited public transport. To retain and attract an 18+ workforce without large pay rises, Welcome Break needed to broaden its perks, raise awareness of benefits like employee discounts, and reduce reliance on recruitment agencies—targeting a 10% cut in turnover.

Working with Reward Gateway, Welcome Break relaunched its engagement hub My Welcome Break and expanded offerings (employee discounts, discounted car leasing, an Employee Assistance Programme, proactive medical provision, health and fitness initiatives and a First Level Leadership programme) to boost financial, social and wellbeing support. The Reward Gateway partnership drove a 36% rise in discounts platform spending, helped embed wellbeing in team routines, and delivered measurable impact: an 8% reduction in turnover and a $170k decrease in agency recruitment spend.
