Siren Marine, the maker of the “Connected Boat” digital subscription for boat monitoring, needed a headless commerce solution after finding PIN limiting. Working with agency Alpha Omega, they selected Recharge for subscription billing because of its Shopify and NetSuite integrations and flexible API, which allowed the front end to be fully decoupled from subscription management for a digital-only product.

Alpha Omega used Recharge to build an API-driven flow that lets customers activate devices and sign up instantly via a mobile app; Recharge notifies Siren Marine’s servers to activate or deactivate service per payment and its line-item properties sync individual devices to specific subscriptions. The Recharge-powered solution produced measurable growth — more than 200 connected boats, 800+ active subscriptions, three subscription plans and a 100% implementation rate — and drove a large share of subscription revenue (including 41% of lifetime subscription revenue reported in Q1 2019), while enabling a referral/credit program to boost retention.
