Strength India Uncovers Real-Life Barriers for Disadvantaged Women and Children

Strength India, founded in 2015 by Tara Celli and Kiran Pal, runs after-school mentorship programs for girls in Uttar Pradesh and works directly with disadvantaged women to understand their daily challenges. They discovered widespread misconceptions about women’s needs but lacked hard, field-collected data to validate their observations—compounded by limited internet access and low literacy in rural areas, which made traditional remote surveys impractical.

Through TechSoup they adopted QuestionPro’s offline survey app, enabling enumerators to go door-to-door and gather detailed responses from over 2,600 women in seven months. The data validated key barriers to menstrual hygiene access and informed the launch of (em)PowerPads—resealable, individually wrapped sanitary napkins in multiple sizes—with a community-based distribution plan; Strength India also cites strong customer support from QuestionPro as critical to the project’s success.
