The Field Museum, a Chicago-based natural history institution with a collection of some 40 million specimens and a large, diverse staff, partnered with QuestionPro and Human Workplaces to conduct a culture assessment. Working with the museum’s Chief HR Officer and a cross-functional task force, their challenge was to understand how employees experienced the museum’s culture and identify priorities to improve collaboration, communication, agility and transparency.

Using QuestionPro’s WorkXO survey, they gathered 300+ complete responses and uncovered a largely traditional organizational culture with strengths in growth and inclusion but weaknesses in cross-silo communication. The team translated those insights into six culture-change priorities and 41 targeted action items—ranging from quick wins like brown-bag knowledge-sharing sessions to bigger investments such as a new intranet and internal community—creating a measurable, sustainable plan to improve collaboration and align culture with future goals.
