Prince George’s County’s Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) coordinates permit processing, plan review, inspections and enforcement across nine agencies. DPIE faced a complex, highly variable permit-review process with time-consuming manual back-end operations, long citizen wait times, interdepartmental discrepancies and a failed internally built app—creating frustration for staff and the public and prompting a need to automate and streamline workflows.
DPIE implemented the Q-Flow® platform for queue management, automated back-end workflows, customer-centric BPM and analytics. Launched day one and in continuous use for five years, Q-Flow cut average wait times by 20 minutes, increased cases handled per day by 15%, reduced review discrepancies, improved staff efficiency and visitor satisfaction, and freed waiting-room capacity; the agency is now planning kiosk-based self check-in to further speed service.
