The Prince Charles Hospital Specialist Outpatient Service in Queensland runs 43 specialist rooms (cardiac, oncology, sleep disorders, vascular surgery, etc.) and sees around 500 patients a day, which led to long queues and many patients arriving hours early. Staff also spent significant time locating patients who were in transit or waiting in the wrong area, reducing efficiency and increasing stress for both patients and employees.
Implementing Q-Flow introduced barcode check-in and a virtual queue that respects scheduled appointment times, issues privacy-protecting tickets, displays call numbers on waiting-room screens, and notifies clinicians via a web interface where they can log follow-up actions. The system eliminated morning queues, improved patient visibility and room direction, cut time spent searching for patients, streamlined communication between reception, clinicians and back office, and generated flow data to optimize future scheduling and staffing.
