QLess Vehicle Booking System Helps Port of Antwerp Reduce Carbon Emissions by Eradicating Truck Lines

DP World’s Antwerp Gateway, a semi-automated container terminal in the Port of Antwerp, faced daily congestion from 400–2,400 trucks queuing with diesel engines idling while waiting to drop off or pick up containers, which reduced productivity and increased internal wait times. The terminal needed a reliable, easy-to-use queue management partner to eliminate lines and cut emissions.

QLess implemented an API-integrated vehicle booking system using a Kanban-style pull buffer, text notifications and VMS displays to call trucks only when capacity is available. The system eradicated truck lines and port traffic jams, saved drivers hundreds of hours daily, and prevented about 730,000 kg of CO2 emissions in its first year.
