Malaysia Airlines Soars to Record-Breaking RASK

Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier serving about 40,000 passengers daily with a strong focus on Southeast Asia, faced intense competition from both low-cost and full-service rivals, price-sensitive demand, overcapacity and thin margins. Delivering revenue growth across hundreds of markets required far greater forecasting precision and faster, data-driven decisions than their existing processes could provide.

Partnering with PROS Revenue Management, Malaysia Airlines adopted algorithmic forecasting, network optimization and automated analytics that freed analysts to focus on strategy and improved forecasting accuracy and pricing practices. The changes drove record performance in 2019: passenger revenue rose 8.7% year‑over‑year and yield increased 7%, with the highest quarterly RASK gains in five years across all regions despite a 4% increase in available seat kilometers; the airline is now rolling out PROS’ cloud RM solution to enable dynamic, willingness-to-pay pricing.
