Remote Therapists Bridge the Gap in the Delivery of Occupational Therapy at Washington District

Sultan School District, a small district about 40 miles outside Seattle, struggled to recruit and retain occupational therapists because of its remote location, leaving students without consistent OT services and forcing reliance on hit-or-miss contract providers.

In February 2014 the district partnered with PresenceLearning to provide live online occupational therapy for roughly 35 students, supplementing a full-time OT paraprofessional with individual and small-group sessions in preschool and autism programs. Staff and parents received training, challenging cases were managed collaboratively on-site with video supervision, and the district experienced reliable service, clear progress tracking, and strong acceptance from families and faculty.
