Large CA Charter School Uses Online Speech Therapy to Bridge the Services Gap Across Three Counties and Improve Administrative Processes

River Springs Charter Schools (SCS) is the largest free K–12 charter network in Southern California, serving about 6,100 students across three charter schools and 12 sites in Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. RSCS was contractually responsible for providing special education services across the network, but its blended classroom/online/home model and wide geography made it hard to recruit and supervise speech-language pathologists (SLPs); piecemeal hiring for small caseloads created a fragmented service network and administrative strain.

SCS implemented PresenceLearning’s online speech therapy platform to centralize delivery and broaden access to qualified SLPs. The virtual model produced more balanced caseloads, reduced service fragmentation, made it easier to find specialized therapists for rare needs, and simplified finance and supervision—improving the district’s ability to meet students’ individualized IEP goals.
