Blended Learning Model Fills Gap for Speech-Language Pathology Services

Willows Intermediate School in rural Glenn County, CA — a 485‑student middle school in a region where the nearest speech providers are over 30 miles away — struggled to secure consistent speech‑language pathology services. To close this gap, the Glenn County Office of Education partnered with PresenceLearning to pilot a blended service model combining employed therapists, telespeech, and local private contracts.

The program set simple eligibility and technology criteria, enrolled 13 students in individual and pairs sessions, and used PresenceLearning’s teletherapy platform to deliver services. Early results show strong satisfaction from students, parents, and staff, a collaborative SLP who integrates with school schedules (including remote participation in IEP meetings), and plans to expand the model to other district schools to sustain access to speech services.
