Case Study: Symphony Health achieves up-to-the-minute analytics and 3-5X faster ETL with Precisely Connect

A Precisely Case Study

Preview of the Symphony Health Case Study

With Precisely Connect, Symphony Health achieved the parallel processing for which Hadoop is designed

Symphony Health, a healthcare data analytics and data science firm owned by PRA Health Sciences, was constrained by a legacy Oracle-based pipeline that made data available only daily or weekly and forced ET analysts to wait on DBAs and an overloaded edge-node ETL process. To eliminate latency and scale processing, Symphony Health engaged Precisely and adopted Precisely’s data integration product, Connect.

Precisely implemented Connect to distribute ETL across Symphony Health’s Hadoop cluster, enabling analysts to define schemas, use parallel processing without custom MapReduce/Spark coding, and push data to Amazon Redshift when needed. The result was a 3–5× performance uplift (one job fell from 20 minutes to 20 seconds), data availability moved from days/weeks to minutes, and lower ongoing costs through cheaper Connect licenses and Hadoop on commodity hardware — accelerating analysis and broadening the team able to build ETL workflows.
