Global Manufacturing Company was running mission-critical workloads on IBM IMS but faced an urgent challenge: key IMS staff were retiring, their IMS version was out of IBM support, and ongoing IMS licensing and third‑party support costs were running into the millions per year. To avoid risky, costly upgrades and to take advantage of modern Db2 capabilities, they engaged Precisely and evaluated Precisely’s Syncsort Optimize IMS as a migration path.

Precisely ran a proof of concept for Syncsort Optimize IMS (completed in a few weeks) and implemented a transparent migration from IMS/VSAM to Db2 on z/OS without requiring application changes. Precisely’s solution delivered significant reductions in IMS software licensing charges and third‑party support fees, while enabling easier application modernization, simpler maintenance and lower operational risk; the customer is now evaluating Precisely’s Syncsort ZPSaver to cut CPU usage and further reduce license costs.
