A Precisely Case Study
Global Financial Company, a multinational financial services firm, struggled with rising IT operations costs and slow problem resolution — for example, a job consuming 30% more CPU than normal — because it lacked real-time visibility and correlation between IBM z/OS and distributed systems. To meet its ITOA needs (real-time RMF/Db2 alerts, anomaly detection, cross-platform transaction tracking, batch and Db2 monitoring), the customer selected Precisely and its Ironstream for Splunk solution to bring IBM Z machine data into Splunk Enterprise.
Precisely implemented a pilot and full rollout of Ironstream for Splunk with its services team and the customer’s IT staff, forwarding up to 100 GB/day of z/OS log data from 13 LPARs into Splunk (with plans to scale to 2 TB/day). The solution enabled real-time CPU and batch monitoring, Db2 stored-proc alerts, and correlation across IBM Z and distributed systems — reducing costly CPU consumption, offloading SAS/MXG processing to commodity hardware, lowering mean time to resolution, eliminating redundant in-house tools, and delivering unified real-time reporting and predictive operational savings.
