Grand Rapids Public Schools uses the PlanSource Dependent Eligibility Audit to save over $800,000 annually in healthcare costs

Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS), Michigan’s fifth-largest school district with 2,700 employees serving nearly 17,000 students, needed to ensure dependent eligibility compliance and eliminate wasteful healthcare spending without cutting benefits. To meet those goals and minimize HR burden, GRPS engaged PlanSource and used the PlanSource Dependent Eligibility Audit (Dependent Verification) to identify ineligible dependents and satisfy carrier and regulatory requirements.

PlanSource managed the entire audit process — communications, mailings, call center support, paperwork and removals — freeing GRPS staff while verifying 3,898 dependents; 15.54% were found ineligible, producing over $800,000 in annual healthcare savings. The PlanSource-led effort exceeded expectations, delivering comprehensive verification with minimal district resources and measurable cost reduction.
