How Clayco Is Making “Zero Punchlists” a Reality with Autodesk

Clayco, a Chicago-based design-build general contractor with a 3,500-strong workforce and a #23 ranking on the 2024 ENR 400, faced a common industry challenge: fragmented, duplicate punchlists and surges of unresolved issues at project closeout. On complex projects they saw hundreds of redundant checklists and as many as 1,800 issues to close by substantial completion, creating stress, delays, and costly rework for teams and owners.

To fix this, Clayco trademarked and rolled out “Punch as You Build” companywide and standardized quality management using Forms in Autodesk Construction Cloud. They consolidated roughly 500 templates into 250+ standardized checklists, added QR-code-enabled workflows and role assignments to enable real-time issue resolution, and trained teams and subs on the process. The result: a 50% reduction in punchlists, zero punchlists on a data center building phase, faster closeouts, clearer reporting, and stronger owner confidence.
