Absurd Bird is a UK chain of Deep South–style restaurants that grew from a single London site to multiple locations (Soho, Exeter, Bath, Leeds and Glasgow), employing about 150 people across front- and back-of-house roles. Relying on spreadsheets for scheduling, holiday accrual and payroll became unmanageable—causing tracking errors, inconsistent pay and excessive admin time for general managers.
They implemented Planday, integrated with their existing POS, to give real-time sales data, streamlined scheduling and self-service shift visibility and swaps. The change improved wage control by 3%, saved about £40,000 a year, cut payroll admin from roughly seven hours to a single email, eliminated pay errors and boosted staff satisfaction and retention.
